Our Story

Three generations. One calling.

A lineage of Vaidyas who believed that healing is not a transaction — it is a responsibility.

The Lineage

1893
First Generation · The Patriarch

Vaidya Sohan Dutta

1893-1967 · Renowned Ayurvedic Practitioner

At a time when Ayurveda was India’s primary system of medicine — long before allopathy had taken hold — Vaidya Sohan Dutta was among its most respected practitioners. He served as personal Vaidya to some of India’s wealthiest and most influential families, traveling across the country from Bombay to Calcutta to tend to those who sought his care.

People traveled from every corner of India to receive his care — not because they had money, but because they had faith.

Yet Vaidya Sohan Dutta never let wealth define his practice. He charged only those who could afford it. To everyone else — farmer, laborer, the rural poor — he gave freely. This was an era when medicine was not a money-making machine. It was a calling. And Vaidya Sohan Dutta answered it with complete devotion until his passing in 1967 at the age of 74.

Second Generation · The Keeper

Vaidya Shanti Devi

Practicing Vaidya · Daughter of Vaidya Sohan Dutta

The healing tradition did not end with Vaidya Sohan Dutta. His daughter — Dr. Virendra Kumar Sharma’s mother — carried forward this knowledge as a practicing Vaidya herself. In a generation where women rarely stepped into formal practice, she kept the flame of classical Ayurvedic wisdom alive within the family, passing it on not just as knowledge but as a way of living.

The formulations, the preparation principles, the philosophy of giving — all of it was preserved and transmitted through her to the next generation.

Third Generation · The Founder

Dr. Virendra Kumar Sharma

Founder, RAAS Ayurveda · Deputy Director (Retd.), UP Government

Dr. Virendra Kumar Sharma grew up immersed in the Ayurvedic wisdom of his grandfather Vaidya Sohan Dutta and his mother Vaidya Shanti Devi. From childhood, he absorbed not just the knowledge of herbs and formulations, but the philosophy behind them — that healing is a responsibility, not a transaction.

His dream was to become a formally trained Ayurvedic physician. He appeared for the CPMT — the Combined Pre-Medical Test in Uttar Pradesh, the gateway to MBBS, BDS, and BAMS admissions. But in that particular year, the botany paper was found to be out of syllabus, the examination was cancelled, and a re-examination was announced. Living in a remote village in Uttar Pradesh, he received the notice too late and learned about the re-examination only on the day he was supposed to appear.

He did not miss his chance. His chance was taken from him — by a postal system that did not reach his village in time.

He did not give up. He took admission in veterinary science to keep moving forward, but his heart was still set on Ayurveda. He filled the CPMT form again the following year, this time aiming for BAMS. The form itself was returned to him because it arrived past the deadline. Two attempts. Two times the system failed him. Not once did he fail himself.

He joined the UP Government veterinary department, where he served with distinction for 38 years and retired as Deputy Director. Across every one of those years, however, he never stopped returning to classical Ayurvedic texts, researching traditional Asav and Arishta preparation methods, making formulations, and giving them free of cost to rural communities around him.

His government career was public service. His evenings and research years were service to a family healing legacy.

Crucially, he did not work in isolation. Over the decades he actively collaborated with qualified BAMS doctors to deepen his understanding, strengthen his clinical reasoning, and ensure the formulations remained grounded in proper Ayurvedic medical knowledge.

His knowledge came from three sources — a century of family Vaidya tradition, decades of personal research into classical texts, and deep ongoing collaboration with qualified BAMS physicians.

When he founded RAAS Ayurveda after retirement, he did not do it alone. The company was established together with his BAMS doctor collaborators — qualified physicians who are formal partners, who review every formulation, who author the Knowledge Series articles, and whose clinical expertise gives RAAS Ayurveda its medical foundation. RAAS Ayurveda also holds AYUSH, FSSAI, and GMP licences — licences that require the presence of qualified medical practitioners.

At 77, Dr. Virendra Kumar Sharma has witnessed the full arc of Ayurveda’s journey — its glory as India’s primary system of medicine, its decline as allopathy took hold, and its recent revival. But the revival troubles him. Ayurveda today is largely associated with beauty products, wellness spas, and minor ailments. The deep classical tradition — capable of addressing complex, serious, chronic conditions — is being lost.

RAAS Ayurveda exists to change that. To prove that Ayurveda is not alternative medicine. That it never was. That is his purpose. That is what drives RAAS Ayurveda every single day.

Using traditional Asav and Arishta preparation methods — a natural fermentation process that takes 6 to 7 months — he developed formulations the way they were meant to be made. No shortcuts. No chemical substitutes. No compromise.

The Vision

Ayurveda is not alternative medicine. It never was.

Ayurveda contains classical formulations discussed for tumors, complex metabolic disorders, and many chronic conditions that remain difficult to manage. This knowledge exists in the ancient texts and has long been part of clinical practice. It became “alternative” not because it stopped working, but because it was never properly documented, systematically validated, or taken to the world in a language the world could easily accept.

Dr. Virendra Kumar Sharma has spent his life watching Ayurveda shrink — first pushed aside by allopathy, then revived only as beauty products and wellness spas. At 77, with a century of family knowledge behind him and decades of personal research and BAMS collaboration, his desire is simple and enormous: to see Ayurveda restored to its rightful place — as a primary system of medicine, respected globally, accessible to every Indian family regardless of income.

That is why RAAS Ayurveda exists. One authentic formulation, one honest patient, one documented outcome at a time.

What We Stand For

No shortcuts in preparation

Classical Asav and Arishta fermentation. 6-7 months of natural preparation. Most Ayurvedic companies use chemical shortcuts. We do not.

No middlemen, no commissions

We go directly to you. No commissions to doctors or pharmacists. Prices stay honest. Quality stays intact.

Ayurveda for everyone

Authentic healing should not be a privilege. Quality Ayurvedic care should remain within reach of every Indian family — not just the wealthy.

Classical, not commercial

Rooted in classical texts, doctor-governed formulations, and a family practice spanning three generations. This is real Ayurveda — not packaging.

The Problem We Solve

Today’s Ayurvedic market has drifted in two directions. We chose a different path.

Cheap products, compromised quality

Many companies price their products low — but to survive, they pay high commissions to doctors and pharmacists. To afford those commissions, they cut corners on ingredients and use chemical shortcuts, compromising the classical preparation that makes Ayurveda effective.

Good quality, unaffordable price

Others maintain quality — but layer on so many middlemen and margins that their products become unaffordable for ordinary Indian families. The people who need authentic Ayurveda the most are priced out of it.

RAAS was founded as a third path

RAAS Ayurveda offers a third way — authentic preparation, honest pricing, and direct access. No compromise on quality. No middlemen. No one left behind.

Our Honest Struggle

Ayurveda heals from within. It does not heal overnight.

In today’s world, that is one of our biggest challenges. When a new customer buys an Ayurvedic formulation, they often expect visible results within days. That expectation is understandable. We live in an era of instant everything, and most people have been trained by modern medicine to associate treatment with rapid symptom relief.

Ayurveda works differently. It does not focus only on suppressing symptoms. It works more gradually with the body’s own systems, aiming to restore balance, strengthen tissue, and rebuild what has been depleted over time. That process often takes weeks, and sometimes months. The healing may be deeper and more lasting, but it is rarely immediate.

That is why we state clearly on our products that a meaningful course often requires patience, and why we recommend completing at least a four-bottle course before expecting full results. We say this not as an excuse, but because this is how classical Ayurvedic healing often works in real life.

We have also received disappointed feedback from customers who tried one bottle, saw no dramatic change, and concluded the product did not work. We understand that disappointment. We do not blame them. The mismatch between expectation and reality is not a character flaw — it is the result of a world trained to expect instant results. Rebuilding patience, one customer at a time, is part of our work too.

What modern medicine does

Targets the symptom directly and often delivers faster relief. But the underlying imbalance may remain, which is one reason symptoms can return or long-term side effects may develop.

What Ayurveda does

Addresses the root cause more gradually. Results may take longer to become obvious, but the goal is systemic strengthening and deeper balance rather than temporary quieting of symptoms.

We ask for your patience — not because we are uncertain, but because real healing takes time. It always has. It always will.
